Additional Zoe's Tale Information

How do you tell your part in the biggest tale in history?

I ask because it's what I have to do. I'm Zoe Boutin Perry: A colonist stranded on a deadly pioneer world. Holy icon to a race of aliens. A player (and a pawn) in a interstellar chess match to save humanity, or to see it fall. Witness to history. Friend. Daughter. Human. Seventeen years old.

Everyone on Earth knows the tale I am part of. But you don't know my tale: How I did what I did — how I did what I had to do — not just to stay alive but to keep you alive, too. All of you. I'm going to tell it to you now, the only way I know how: not straight but true, the whole thing, to try make you feel what I felt: the joy and terror and uncertainty, panic and wonder, despair and hope. Everything that happened, bringing us to Earth, and Earth out of its captivity. All through my eyes.

It's a story you know. But you don't know it all.

What Customers Say About Zoe's Tale:

book is very funny, and looking at anything from a teenage girls point of view is quite interesting i know from what i read by John Scalzi that he put a lot of effort into doing this in a way that makes it believable. as always Scalzi does a great job of writing this story. I enjoyed looking at the stories from Zoe's point of view. its kind of like seeing a movie remade a generation later.

And those young adults who like Zoe Tale might be in for little more than they bargained for if they pick up the any of the other three books in the series. I do question the use of the same style cover art and cover layout as the previous books. After three books in the series I can see why the author would want to write something different. A picture of a young women instead of a smoking spaceship. The previous three previous books in the series were adult in topic and language. Zoe's Tale is basically a young adult novel and not in the same vein as Old Man's War or The Last Colony. Same style cover art should equal same style book.

It easily captures your imagination and keeps you well entertained throughout -A great escape from the daily grind. One of my favorite side-stories are her interactions with her bodyguards -who I think are actually hilarious, although I don't think that was necessarily the intent. Zoe is an absolute delight. She embodies what young girls these days should emulate (in my opinion of course). All-in-all this was a wonderfully captivating story.

I know I'll be reading this book over and over, it was so much fun the first time. I wish I knew a teenager I could introduce this to.

Enjoy, this book is a keeper (but get a second copy to pass along). Actually, I recommend not reading them close together.

I have to wait 10 years until my kids are old enough (and like my dad did for me, I am very excited to get them started on sf). This book is written in the same timeline with The Last Colony but it completely stands on its own. It may be better to read Zoe's Tale first, then The Last Colony.

Zoe is the teenager that I like to think I was like - smart, brave, sarcastic, funny, loving, queen of an alien race. I am no longer a teenager (and haven't been one in quite some time) so I can't speak to how much a teenager would love it but I do know I would have loved this book when I was younger.

I read Zoe's Tale soon after reading The Last Colony and found myself anticipating events.

You can easily read the rest of the series and not include this one to no harm. Even though this is a fairly short novel I got very bored in parts and after reading I was left wondering about some parts; where they really necessary. The book was suppose to fill holes left in 'The Last Colony' but It just made it harder to believe for me. Just my opinion, but this book seems to be a 'throw away' in many aspects. Scalzi notes in the afterword that writing a first person book as a teenage girl is difficult and it shows in this addition to the series. I think Scalzi is the real deal; a very talented SciFi writer, but don't judge by this one. Maybe Scalzi ought to think about writing longer novels and not leaving stuff like this to be filled in later.
